Flying home in style

Our flight home on MaxJet was very nice.

The business class treatment was a far cry from the uber-economy class flights we had taken around Europe. It was a nice way to think about all that we'd done and seen in the past two months.

We got in at 1, took the subway home. Arrived at home around 3. And spent the rest of the day jetlagged and unpacking the tons of junk mail, boxes we'd sent home, and our luggage.

Man summer flew. What a fun adventure.

We will be putting a lot of the photos on our photo blog. They're not up yet, but we invite you to bookmark http://www.troywass.com for those galleries.

Moving toward home

Upon leaving Dachau we went to the Munich Airport. The plan was to arrive at London's Stansted airport and then kill about 10 hours before checking in for our flight.

Frankfurt

So, I’m beginning to think that Ryan air is more trouble than it’s worth. We booked a flight to Frankfurt, granted it said Frankfurt Hahn, so you would expect it to be a little farther out than the regular airport. However, one does not expect it to be 2 hours away, in another state altogether. It would be like booking a flight to New York and having them drop you off in Philly, or flying to Melbourne only to have the airport be in Ballarat.

Grr….since we were in the middle of nowhere we checked out the entire rental car places at the airport – automatics, which are rare in Europe anyways, were gone. Oh, we could have had a luxury Mercedes but I think that might have been just a touch outside our price range. There was no choice but to take the bus into town.

Luxury Flying

Maxjet. As some of you may know we were lucky enough to fly MaxJet from New York to London. It’s a relatively new airline, one that stands out by being the only all business-class operator. They usually charge less than half of the rate of most business-class tickets and E managed to find a 50% off sale, meaning that we got return tickets for about $50 more than the average prices for coach.

It’s going to be very hard to go back to coach for any long haul flights. The food was excellent, and not just by airline standards. There was so much room between seats that it was almost impossible to reach the back of the chair in front without getting out of your seat. The icing on the cake – even though it came first – was the chance to visit the airport lounge before the flight. These places are way over the top. We helped ourselves to an open bar, which was also replete with snacks. We had the option of showering (something sorely lacking in most airports) or even taking a nap.
