| Just
as many members of the Islamic world see .com as being
more progressive than their national country code domain,
other societies also have relationships with domains
other than their national codes.
In Sweden, restrictive domain registration
policies have kept many Swedes from using the Swedish
country code top-level domain (ccTLD), .se, and encouraged
them to use other codes. The policies resulted in the
dispersal of the Swedish population on the Internet.
Patrik Lindén, a communications
officer at the Swedish Internet Infrastructure Foundation
(IIS), the organization responsible for the managing
of .se, discusses the exodus from .se and the efforts
that have been taken to bring the Swedish people back
to their national code.
