Toby E. Huff is chancellor professor in the
Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University
of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
He wrote The Rise of Early Modern Science:
Islam, China and the West (1993), which has been translated
into Arabic. A revised second edition with a new epilogue
was released in mid-2003. He coedited, with Wolfgang Schluchter,
Max Weber and Islam (1999). In addition to his interests
in the history of science (East and West), he continues his
work on globalization and the Internet in the Asian and Muslim
worlds.
